Interactive web & product UI
2017 — present

Shipping browser-based experiences across public-facing content platforms and cross-surface product UI, with a focus on interaction quality and craft.

  • Developed and shipped Viva Topics Expanded View — a contextual knowledge surface extending the Live Persona Card across SharePoint, Teams, Outlook Web App, and Viva Engage — owning UI implementation, interaction refinement, and experience reviews through v1 and v2.
  • Built the V1 article page experience for Windows Community, a public-facing Microsoft platform, implementing UI/UX and REST API integration with a backend CMS.
  • Implemented site-wide search for Windows Community using the Bing Search API, including UI design and full frontend integration.
  • Directed and iterated a physics-based interactive card prototype with Claude across 17 versions, producing a framework-agnostic component specification with documented physics constants, design tokens, and reduced motion handling. jesspagan.com/notes/player-card
Design systems & component architecture
2020 — present

Building the foundations teams ship on: reusable components, token hierarchies, and the tooling that connects design intent to production code.

  • Led vision and execution of the SharePoint Design System (SPDS), architecting token and component systems across SharePoint products and feature teams.
  • Defined a three-stage component maturity model (alpha → beta → stable) under SEMVER with promotion governance covering API stability, accessibility, and documentation completeness.
  • Established Storybook + MDX as canonical source of truth for components, tokens, and usage guidance, aligned to Fluent's structure to support cross-system consistency.
  • Partnered with design to release a public-facing toolkit that grew ~21% in three months (10.9k → 13.2k downloads; 399 → 482 bookmarks).
  • Structured documentation to be machine-readable, enabling Copilot and MCP workflows to ground responses in accurate, system-level guidance.
Rapid prototyping & AI-assisted workflows
2022 — present

Moving quickly from concept to working proof-of-concept, in the browser, in Storybook, and in collaboration with AI tools.

  • Built more than ten Storybook-based component prototypes in a single release cycle to validate feasibility, token behavior, and accessibility before implementation.
  • Participated in and helped operationalize AI-assisted prototyping workflows using Figma Dev Mode, StackBlitz Bolt, and Vercel v0 to accelerate design-to-code iteration.
  • Used Claude to prototype, stress-test, and specify a physics-based interactive card component, directing iteration across 17 versions to a production-ready spec with documented physics constants, design tokens, and reduced motion handling.
Accessibility & compliance
2017 — present

A through-line across every role, from audit and remediation to embedding standards into system reviews and publishing governance.

  • Embedded WCAG 2.x contrast targets (4.5:1 normal, 3:1 large text), ARIA roles, and keyboard interaction patterns into SPDS system reviews, reducing accessibility escapes.
  • Performed accessibility audits and remediation across SharePoint product deployments and public web properties throughout Microsoft career.
  • Implemented client-side consent-aware rendering and GDPR/cookie compliance behaviors for Windows Community and other public Microsoft web experiences.
  • Implemented SEO for Windows Community across Bing, Google, and major social platforms.
Internal tooling & content infrastructure
2020 — present

Building tools that help teams author, publish, and manage web experiences at scale.

  • Designed and governed Code Connect metadata publishing workflows that synchronized reusable UI component definitions and token data between engineering systems and Figma.
  • Led migration of SPDS component packages to a versioned @sharepoint-ui publishing scope, including governance approvals, migration guidance, and adoption enablement.
  • Created a Splunk dashboard to visualize project management progress for a maritime systems program at NAVSEA (2016).
